Sport Unit 1- Sport Policy and Capital Programmes Division
Functions of the Unit:
The Unit has responsibility for:
- The development of sport and recreational policies;
- Liaison with the Irish Sports Council;
- Liaison with Horse Racing Ireland;
- Liaison with Bord na gCon;
- The administration of the Sports Capital Programme which is funded from the proceeds of the National Lottery;
- The administration of the Local Authority Swimming Pool Programme which is funded by the Exchequer;
- Liaison with EU, Council of Europe, World Anti-Doping Agency in relation to sports issues and policies.
- Processing applications from certified sports bodies seeking approval of sports capital projects, under Section 41 of the Finance Act 2002, to allow for tax relief to be claimed against donations received to offset costs. Tax Relief for Donations to Certain Sports Bodies
