The Heritage Fund

In the year 2001, acting on the recommendation of the Council of National Cultural Institutions and with the consent of the Minister for Finance, the then Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands agreed to the use of the resources in the Heritage Fund as part payment for a collection of Joyce papers, valued at GB£8m, for the National Library of Ireland. The collection was acquired on a phased basis over three years, 2002, 2003 and 2004, using combined resources committed from the Fund and a private donor, availing of Section 1003 of the Taxes Consolidation Act, 1997. Sanction was granted on the basis of purchasing the collection over the aforementioned years.

The Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, with the consent of the Minister for Finance and on the recommendation of the Council of National Cultural Institutions, sanctioned the purchase of artworks with a total value of €3,233,835 and acquired in 2005. Acquisitions to date outlined below.
