History of Irish Art & Architecture
The Royal Irish Academy is creating a new and comprehensive five volume history of Irish Art. This is a national project involving collaboration with all
of the major academic and art institutions including the universities, the National College of Art and Design, Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, the Limerick City Gallery
and the national Cultural Art Institutions. The individual volumes will deal with Medieval Art and Architecture c.400 -, Painters and Paintings 1600 - 1900, Sculptors and Sculpture 1600 - 2000,
Architects and Architecture 1600 - 2000, and Painting, Printmaking, Photography and Video Art 1900 - 2000. Each volume will consist of up to 200,000 words, with a maximum of 2,500 words devoted to individual artists.
Images will be interspersed with the text, in colour or black and white as appropriate. The publication will be made available as a boxed set in individual volumes, in a special presentational edition and in electronic format.
