Corporate Services - Audit Unit
Functions of the Unit:
The primary role of Internal Audit is to give assurance to the Accounting Officer as to the adequacy of the Department’s system of internal control. It is responsible for providing audit assurance that all significant operating risks are identified, managed and controlled. It will seek to identify and report on deficiencies or weaknesses in systems and controls and make appropriate recommendations. It acts as an independent Unit under the general direction of the Secretary General with no involvement in day-to-day operations.
The Audit Unit
- Implements the Annual Audit Programme
- Provides administrative support to the Audit Committee
- Has responsibility for the implementation of relevant Mullarkey Report recommendations on Corporate Governance
- Facilitates the introduction of Risk Management across the Department
